Railways & Expressways
Transport is a major sector of the economy. Bangladesh has a 2,706-kilometre (1,681-mile) rail network operated by state-owned Bangladesh Railway. The total length of the country's road and highway network is nearly 21,000-kilometre (13,000-mile). High economic growth is anticipated for Bangladesh given the country’s population of more than 16 million in a land area of 147,570 square km. The key to unlocking this growth, however, lies in figuring out how to solve the logistics problems posed by Bangladesh’s yet-incomplete roads, railways, and other transportation infrastructure. Bangladesh has already undertaken three major projects like Khulna-Mongla Rail Link, Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Rail Line, Dhaka-Tongi Third and Fourth Line. Expressway is a highway designed for fast traffic, with controlled entrance and exit, a dividing strip between the traffic in opposite directions, and typically two or more lanes in each direction. Star Infrastructure Development Consortium Limited has its interest to undertake railways & expressways projects for the development of the livelihood.
